APPROACH PWN Luanda invites you to the in-person session “Models of Excellence,” this time featuring Irina Garrido da Costa. She began her career as a senior pensions officer and later worked in insurance at AAA Fundos de Pensões and AAA Seguros in 2007. In 2008, she passed a public competition to join the diplomatic career, where she worked in the department of legal affairs, treaties, and disputes. Later, she passed another public competition to join the justice system as a legal clerk, being assigned in 2011 to the third section of the civil and administrative chamber. In 2013, she was transferred to the fourth section of the same chamber. She then participated in a public competition to join the judicial magistracy, graduating fourth in her class at INEJ. She was appointed as a judge in October 2016 and officially took office in December 2016, being assigned to the eighth section of common crimes at the Belas District Court in January 2017. In July 2018, she was transferred to the first section of the labor chamber, where she continues to serve as a judge. She served as an assistant professor at the Universidade Independente de Angola, teaching the course Introduction to the Study of Law during the 2007/2008 academic year. She completed her legal internship at the OAA and earned a CPLP scholarship in 2008/2009 to attend the Rio Branco Institute in Brasília. Later, she obtained a scholarship from the Open Society Foundation to pursue a master’s degree in Legal Sciences at the Federal University of Paraíba. In 2012, she was awarded a Fulbright master’s scholarship but had to forgo it due to health reasons. She has written two scientific articles: one on the dignity of the human person, published in a Brazilian legal journal, and another on domestic violence, published in a South African journal on human rights and gender issues.
