PWN Global Newsletter Q1 2023

Happy New Year!

Dear members and supporters,

The Chinese New Year is upon us, and it's the "Year of the Water Rabbit". In Chinese tradition, the year of the water rabbit is one of peaceful and patient energy. We thought this was a lovely analogy for the work of PWN Global and its sister networks. That peaceful, patient energy is what helps drive our volunteers to consistently develop and deliver initiatives that advance gender-balanced leadership.

The transformational work that we do, doesn't happen over night - we are changing hearts, minds, and entire cultures to better understand the benefits of gender-balanced leadership, and that takes immense patience.

And what keeps us motivated to create change? Well, stories like the one we were saddened to read just last week - Jacinda Ardern, the world’s youngest female head of government when she was elected prime minister of New Zealand in 2017, is stepping down.

We're sure they're many reasons for her decision, but the line in her speech that really struck a chord with us was that she "no longer had enough in the tank".  Any women, with family commitments, will recognise this feeling. At PWN, we believe that by advancing gender-balanced leadership, there will be fewer women having to make such hard, and radical choices.

Jacinda, we salute you!

What's New?

PWN Global's Board has been working hard to onbard some new team members.

  • Emmanuelle Camus has been appointed as our new Global Head of Programmes - you can read more about her activities further down.
  • Monica Santiago, founder and former President of PWN Lisbon will take on the role of Global Head of Membership Experience & Network Development (Monica is also a legendary Samba dancer - as anyone who attended the PWN Offsite Meeting a few years ago, in Bucharest, will remember!!).

Emmanuelle has actually been with us a while, putting together a strong team that will be responsible for the launch of our International Mentoring Programme. We will be talking extensively to our City Networks over the next few weeks, and hope to have an exciting announcement for members and extended community, with more details, towards the end of February.

Other programs are in the development pipeline and we are working to identify a team of volunteers as Global Executive Leads, under Emmanuelle’s coordination.  If you're interested in supporting PWN Global's International Programme Development, please keep an eye on the PWN Global Volunteer webpage to find out more about the upcoming opportunities.

Evidently, the PWN Global Board continues to build the financial sustainability of the organisation in the post-Covid era. Launching new programmes and evolving our member platform will be key to our sustainability, so watch this space!

If you like the stories we share in our newsletter, please feel free to share it with your own networks to help spread the word about the work of the PWN Global network.

Warmest regards from your dedicated Presidents
