PWN Global Newsletter Q3 2017
Q3 2017
Dear PWN
Community,
Balanced Leadership – the Time is Now!
“What a great idea", "Walking the talk!",
"Love this!", "Very inspiring.", "Leading by example", "A great step
forward for PWN Global", "Role modelling for Balanced Leadership", "A
GREAT DECISION!”.
These are just some of the comments from the many
women and men who have been thrilled and excited by the news that the
PWN city networks have elected female and male Co-Presidents of our
Global Federation Board.
Together with our team of newly
elected Global Board members, we are really looking
forward to the challenge of developing and growing our world-leading
gender balance network in the year ahead.
It has been clear to us for some time that while
women’s networks are essential to support women and
their career development, if we really want to make a major difference
to gender balance, we need to engage men. Men
control 80% of executive positions and command the majority of people
manager roles, so men have a large influence on women’s careers. How
they recruit, develop and promote their female talent is
crucial to whether these women feel valued and see career
development opportunities. The working environment and culture these
leaders create and the workplace policies they adopt on key issues
such as flexible working and equal weight for paternity/maternity
leave all make a major difference to retaining their high
potential women.
We know of the evidence that teams are more effective when they
are gender balanced. We know that organisations that have
leadership and a strategy on gender balance perform better and are
more enjoyable places to work. And increasingly we are seeing that men
coming into the workplace and men developing their careers also want
balance, or integration, between their work and home lives. They want
to spend time with their families, care for their elder relatives,
develop interests outside of the workplace, while still having the
potential to develop satisfying and rewarding careers.
We continue to build on our heritage of being a
network for professional women, run by professional women. For this
reason we will always offer development opportunities that address the
specific needs of our female professionals. Our webinar series has
already offered a plethora of personal leadership development
opportunities on subjects such as 4 Phases of a Women’s Career,
Shift Into Thrive, Handling Ordinary Sexism, Coping as a Working
Parent and many more – you can read more about these in the article
below, or see them here.
PWN Global recognizes the need for balanced
leadership and is now leading the way with our own balanced
leadership. We hope to be an example for business and organizations
that want to join us in prioritizing balanced leadership as
the key to innovation, growth and talent retention.
We would love for you to unite with us on the
journey, and transform the organisations we all work for, into truly
gender balanced workplaces that enable all of us to lead productive
and fulfilling lives.
So, if you haven’t done so already, get in touch with us,
join a
local city network, volunteer and
help us make a difference – you’ll have a great experience,
develop yourself and, very importantly, have a lot of fun!
Enjoy your read and make sure to share the
news.
